Why Mountain Brook Homeowners Trust SWAT

The trees are a big part of what makes Mountain Brook a beautiful place to live, and they’re also the biggest threat to the roofs under them. Our Alabama office is on Alton Road in Irondale, about twenty minutes away by I-20 and Montevallo Road, so we can usually look at your roof the same day you call. Roofing work in Mountain Brook needs a city permit before it starts, and we pull it for you on every job.

Mountain Brook began in 1929 as Robert Jemison Jr.’s Mountain Brook Estates and became a city in 1942. About half the homes here were built in 1964 or earlier, and many are Tudor-style houses with steep roofs, dormer windows and tall chimneys. Those details give the houses their charm, but every spot where two slopes meet or a chimney comes through has to be sealed well to keep water out.

On Mountain Brook roofs we spend extra time on the chimneys and the valleys, the low channels where two slopes meet. We also check the decking, the wood under your shingles, since a heavy limb can crack it and leave the shingles looking almost fine. You’ll get photos of every side of your roof and an honest answer about whether it needs a repair, an insurance claim or nothing right now. Call us at (205) 623-2446 to talk to a real person at our Irondale office.

We had an excellent experience with SWAT Roofing & Contracting. Jamie Marsh was our service associate, and he helped explain the entire process, making it very easy to work through with them and our insurance company. Their work is exceptional and quick. Jamie remained responsive through the whole process and I am confident with their fairness of their pricing. Highly recommend.

As someone who has never had their roof replaced, I was completely clueless about the process. Jamie Marsh took the time to thoroughly explain the process and was always available to assist with any questions or concerns along the way. As a bit of a special case, having recently changed insurance companies, I expected some push back from my previous insurer. From meeting with their adjuster, to working around my schedule to determine a replacement date, and being on site to ensure the integrity of not just my property but my neighbors as well, I can't thank Jamie and the SWAT roofing team enough for their guidance and professionalism throughout the process.

He fully explained how the while process would go and consistently stayed in contact and give us periodic updates all the way up until the day the job was done. The crew who did the work on the roof were very professional and helpful and ensured we were able to come and go safely while they worked. Thanks William for all your hard work!!

SWAT Roofing replaced my roof and gutters, painted the outside of the house and also did some minor repairs inside. They did a great job and my roof looks better than ever. Will Martin, the project manager, did a very good job in scheduling and communicating about all aspects of the project. I can definitely recommend SWAT Roofing.

Shout out to William Martin with SWAT Roofing for helping with the insurance claim, having to work with 2 different insurance adjusters to prove the damage for the roof replacement. William also made sure from beginning to end that the work was completed on time and to the standards that SWAT sets for their work ethics, thank you.

Mountain Brook Roofs Take a Beating from Alabama Weather

Just after midnight on December 10, 2023, an EF-1 tornado with winds around 90 mph touched down near Samford University. It crossed Shades Creek Parkway, Highway 280 and Cahaba Road and ended on the ridge along Cherokee Road. That same night, 60 to 70 mph winds knocked down trees across much of the city, from Cherokee Village near Brookwood Mall to Overton Road. Storms on May 2, 2025 brought winds near 60 mph and more fallen trees on Montevallo Road. The big hail on February 26, 2026 stayed on the east side of the county, so in Mountain Brook it’s mostly wind and trees that damage roofs.

A falling limb can crack the decking, bend the metal flashing around your chimney or knock the gritty coating off your shingles, and you might not see any of it from the ground. Hail does the same kind of hidden damage when it hits. Insurance companies want proof of what happened and when, so it’s smart to have your roof checked soon after a storm. Our inspections are free, and we’ll tell you honestly when we don’t find anything.

Mountain Brook Roofing • FAQ

Most of the time we can be there the same day you call. Our Irondale office is about twenty minutes from Crestline Village, and we cover all of Mountain Brook, including the 35213, 35223 and 35243 zip codes. A tree on the roof gets a tarp right away to keep the rain out, and then we’ll talk through next steps with you.

The City of Mountain Brook’s Building Inspections office issues them. A permit is required to re-roof or replace shingles, and it has to be issued before work starts. Every city in Jefferson County handles permits a little differently, so we check the rules for your address and pull the right permit for you.

Trees can wear out a roof faster even on calm days. Shade keeps the roof damp after rain, which lets moss and algae grow. Leaves clog the valleys and gutters and hold water at the roof’s edge, where it can seep under the shingles. Trimming back low branches and cleaning your gutters a couple of times a year helps a lot.

Steep roofs like the ones on many Mountain Brook Tudors are work we’re set up for. They take more time and safety gear than a low ranch roof, and each peak, dormer and chimney needs new flashing put in the right way, not just a coat of caulk. We plan for that in your quote. We also work on slate, clay tile and other roofs that aren’t asphalt shingles, so you won’t need a second company for a house with mixed materials.

Start by looking from the ground for missing or crooked shingles, dented gutters, shingle grit near your downspouts or new stains on upstairs ceilings. A lot of storm damage can’t be seen from the yard, though, so it’s worth having us check even if everything looks fine. A free inspection takes about an hour, and you’ll get dated photos of anything we find.

Often it will, as long as wind or a storm brought the tree down, and your policy and deductible decide exactly what’s covered. We work with every major insurance company, and one SWAT project manager stays with your claim from the first call to the final payment, meeting your adjuster and handling the paperwork. Any hidden damage we find after the old roof comes off goes to your insurer as an update, called a supplement, so it gets covered too.

We don’t give prices over the phone, because two houses that look alike can need very different roofs. A steep Tudor with several peaks takes much more material and labor than a ranch house the same size. Our inspector checks how steep your roof is, how many layers are on it, the shape of the wood underneath and the materials you want. Pricing it in person keeps your quote accurate and makes costly change orders after tear-off much less likely. Storm-damaged roofs are often covered by insurance, minus your deductible, and our roof replacement cost guide shows typical prices by material.

Yes, through our lending partners GreenSky and GoodLeap, subject to credit approval. Financing helps when insurance doesn’t cover the whole job or when an older roof just needs replacing. Options include $0-down plans, fixed rates and no penalty for paying early. Our financing page has the details, or your project manager can walk you through it.

SWAT Roofing is licensed by the Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board (license #41811) and insured for residential roofing work in Alabama.
